Just saw some kind of 90s Subaru Impreza Woody, (I was driving so no SR20) It had wood and chrome on the side, a large spare on the back and a chrome bullbar. I think it was a US import, since I’ve never seen one like it, and it had sidelights and narrow plate slots.

Does anybody have an idea what this could have been?

Nothing factory. Subie did the weird two-tone Outback thing, but not wood.

Closest thing I can think to an Impreza woody is the AMC Eagle, but that’s not nearly close enough to really bring up.

The only thing that comes to mind would be an Impreza Gravel Express. We never got these in the US. Also, all first generation Imprezas had side markers (sidelights?), and Japan (and some other places) use narrow plates.

I’ve never seen one with wood paneling, however.

That’s a lot like it, I guess the owner just stuck the wood and chrome on it himself.

There were two concepts in the 90s with wood paneling ( a Forester and an Outback, I believe) but nothing production.

No, sadly never seen one of those here in the Netherlands, this one clearly read Subaru on the spare tire cover.
